Lucanet has launched what is believed to be a market-first Tagger agent for Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) reporting for the upcoming reporting season.

“As the industry’s first comprehensive narrative tagging agent, Tagger Agent addresses XBRL’s biggest bottleneck, manual, page-by-page tagging of financial statement notes,” says Janis Steinmann, XBRL Manager at Lucanet. “By combining a deep understanding of the financial narrative context with a multi-agent approach, we give finance teams a tool that increases tagging accuracy, reduces repetitive work and allows experts to focus on validation and controls rather than tedious tagging. This is a step change in terms of reporting efficiency and quality.”

Key points to remember:

· The Tagger Agent uses a multi-agent AI architecture to perform narrative tagging, numeric table tagging, extension creation, and computational linkbase generation in parallel, transforming a multi-day expert process into a minute- or hour-long automated workflow while preserving human oversight for final validation.

· Optimized for European reporting mandates, the solution supports multiple languages, including English, German, Swedish, Italian and Spanish, and fully aligns with the latest ESEF (European Single Electronic Format) taxonomy.

· Lucanet’s Tagger Agent leverages a multi-agent AI architecture to deliver over 80% accuracy compared to human-tagged reports. This ensures highly reliable automation while allowing human monitoring when needed.

· The ESEF has introduced a block tagging mandate for notes to financial statements for financial years beginning on or after January 2022. Subsequent updates implemented in early 2025 included use of the latest ESEF taxonomy, even more granular block tagging, stricter validation rules, and updated anchoring requirements, making the enhanced XBRL reporting automation process even more relevant to finance teams, especially ahead of reporting season. XBRL is the global or truly digital financial and sustainability reporting, enabling financial and business data to be tagged in a machine-readable manner, enabling automated validation, clearer comparability and faster regulatory filings.

· The XBRL Tagger solution streamlines and automates the tagging of financial statements and disclosures.
