CaseBasix, a US company that supports the recruitment process at large consulting firms, revealed that McKinsey had integrated a “how to use AI” confirmation process as part of the final interview process for new graduates.
According to CaseBasix, McKinsey asked candidates to use its in-house AI tool, Lilli, during the final interviews of its US recruitment process, during which finalists were asked to complete hands-on consulting tasks using Lilli.
CaseBasix explains: “The McKinsey AI interview requires candidates to instruct the AI, review its results, make judgments, and provide clear, structured answers. The interview emphasizes collaboration and reasoning skills rather than technical expertise in AI. In practice, candidates are usually presented with questions and business scenarios that resemble real consulting work. Rather than relying solely on their own analysis, candidates can use AI as an assistive tool to explore information, organize their thoughts, and refine their ideas.
CaseBasix Says Applicants Do Not Need to Be Qualified in Advanced Fields inciting techniques for getting the AI to perform tasks or answer questions, but they must demonstrate that they can use the AI as a “productive thinking partner” and clearly communicate their reasoning, in the same way that a consultant interacts with a junior team member.
CaseBasix also notes that “early reports and candidate feedback suggest that McKinsey’s AI interviews do not assess technical knowledge of AI, but rather how candidates think, judge, and collaborate with AI.” According to CaseBasix, AI interviews also assess factors such as problem solving, structured thinking, personal influence, leadership and values.
Microsoft also announced that McKinsey would be an early adopter Copilot Studio in 2024. The project will use Copilot Studio for tasks such as responding to customer requests and generating leads. Besides McKinsey, other early adopters of the project include Clifford Chance and Pets at Home.
Bob Sternfels, CEO of McKinsey said in an interview with the Harvard Business Review, McKinsey has a workforce of 40,000 employees and 20,000 agents.
