Global logistics giant FedEx has announcement an investment exceeding Rs 2,500 crore in an automated cargo hub at Navi Mumbai International Airport, marking its first dedicated facility in India.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place today (February 18) in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and senior officials of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, the airport operator.
The state-of-the-art facility was designed as a regional consolidation center for domestic and international shipments.
He is expected will create more than 6,000 jobs and feature cutting-edge technology, including advanced sorting systems and high-speed screening equipment.
The hub aims to improve transit times and reliability for time-sensitive industries such as electronics and pharmaceuticals.
FedEx’s investment comes as Navi Mumbai International Airport positions itself as a major cargo gateway to western India.
The airport master plan dedicates 29 hectares to cargo facilities, including 10 cargo bays and an automated terminal, with projections to handle 2.6 million metric tons of cargo annually.
This development aligns with the broader shift in cargo operations from Mumbai’s congested Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to Navi Mumbai.
The new airport, which begin commercial passenger operations on December 25, 2025, provides better access to logistics infrastructure and proximity to Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
The hub will enable efficient movement of goods across South Asia, Europe and the United States, strengthening India’s role as a global logistics gateway.
