Descartes Systems Group announced that Automated Logistics Systems is using the Descartes Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) solution to help its customers expedite customs clearance and reduce costs of imports into the United States by deferring payment of many customs duties. A free trade zone is a federally authorized secure zone in which domestic and foreign commercial goods receive the same treatment by CBP as if they were outside of United States commerce. The Descartes FTZ solution enables importers and logistics service providers (LSPs) to comply with CBP regulatory requirements for operating a FTZ in the United States by automating detailed chain of custody, access and , release of shipments and record keeping.
The solution is also used to streamline shipping management, customs clearance, classification and warehousing. The Descartes FT Z solution can be operated as a standalone module or as part of an enterprise’s broader trade compliance platform.
