CHICAGO — October 31, 2024 — Tempus, a leader in artificial intelligence and precision medicine, and Northwestern Medicine, Chicago’s first integrated academic health system, today announced a collaboration to explore the application of intelligence artificial in clinical care and research. The collaboration, which is expected to expand across multiple conditions over time, will begin with the Northwestern Medicine Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, a nationally recognized destination for specialty cardiovascular care and the advancement of discovery.

“As we navigate the complex healthcare landscape, this collaboration between Tempus and Northwestern Medicine highlights an alliance aimed at revolutionizing patient care through AI-driven methods,” said Eric Lefkofsky, CEO and Founder of Tempus. “By harnessing the power of data. With this knowledge, we not only treat diseases; we are paving the way for better outcomes, faster diagnoses and more personalized treatment plans. »

Northwestern Medicine deploys Tempus technology within its cardiology care teams to identify patients at increased risk of developing atrial fibrillation (AFib) or one of seven structural heart diseases (SHD), including heart disease. mitral, aortic and tricuspid valves, cardiac abnormalities. function and abnormal heart thickening. Northwestern Medicine is the first provider to clinically deploy Tempus’ ECG-AF algorithm, its FDA-cleared device that uses AI to help doctors identify patients at increased risk of atrial fibrillation/flutter (AF). The Tempus ECG-AF algorithm is intended to be used to analyze recordings from 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) machines and detect signs associated with a patient suffering from AF over the next 12 months. These patients can be efficiently referred to a clinician for further diagnostic evaluation. As part of this initial deployment, the two organizations will collaborate on a clinical research trial leveraging various Tempus technologies using ECG data.

“Northwestern Medicine is committed to applying innovative technologies to improve patient care,” said Howard Chrisman, MD, president and CEO of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. “Artificial intelligence has the capacity to be transformative in healthcare, and this will require a collaborative effort to help unlock its true potential and ensure it is deployed safely and ethically in research and healthcare settings. patient care.

As Chicago’s premier integrated academic health system, Northwestern Medicine offers patients access to world-class, compassionate care across 11 hospitals and more than 200 diagnostic and outpatient locations. The health system is based on Northwestern Memorial Hospital. For 13 consecutive years, Northwestern Memorial has been named to Honor roll of the best hospital by U.S. News and World Report, with 11 nationally ranked specialties. Most notable is that Northwestern Memorial is one of only three hospitals in the country to receive a U.S. News rating of high performance in all procedures and conditions.
