OpenAI and Anthropic have both announced big plans to move into healthcare, with a consumer-focused tool called ChatGPT Health and a version of the Claude chatbot that can help clinicians make a diagnosis and write medical notes.
Google is particularly absent from this wave of announcements. Its Gemini chatbot is one of the most popular and successful, so why not also enter the lucrative healthcare market? Perhaps because Google knows from experience that such an effort can backfire spectacularly.
It is in health advice that generative artificial intelligence presents one of its most interesting potentials. But new AI companies, perhaps blinded by bravado and hype, will meet a fate similar to that of Google if they are not more transparent about the famous hallucinations of their technology.
