The investment arm will also invest in venture capital funds.

Japanese shopping data analytics company True Data has launched a corporate venture capital unit to invest in AI startups.
The new unit will focus on investments in AI, machine learning, retail technology, big data and point-of-sale data, marketing technology and fintech.
It will make direct and fund-of-fund investments, having already made its first two commitments, the first in a fund managed by venture capital firm On&Board, focused on AI agents, and another managed by venture capital firm Onabaka.
“To continue our growth in the future, we believe it is essential to collaborate with startups that excel in technological capabilities and speed in areas such as advanced analysis of purchasing behavior, decision support through AI, as well as new value creation and external expansion of data. This is why we decided to launch an HVAC business,” the company said.
