HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Meta, the company that owns social media platforms Instagram and Facebook, has stepped up its security efforts this year.
More than 635,000 accounts on Instagram and Facebook were removed after Meta said its artificial intelligence system detected violations of its policies on child exploitation, abuse and nudity.
But some business owners, like Kailia Lopez, 23, said Meta’s security system was incorrect.
Lopez owns an online bikini store, Kailia’s Kinis, which has used Instagram as her primary source of business. Her account had amassed over 35,000 followers and she was taking and fulfilling orders through her page.
But Meta took it down after saying his account violated its policies.
Lopez said this never happened and that the ban on her account hampered her business just as she was ordering a new collection for her online store.
Lopez’s products are made from all-natural and recycled materials for bikinis, and she hopes to start connecting with her customers again through her Instagram page soon.
