“A global legacy is coming home – with a focus on Bermuda’s future
“The Bermuda Principles were established in 1996 at the International Strategy Meeting on Human Genome Sequencing, setting the standard that data from the Human Genome Project be made publicly available within 24 hours, accelerating scientific progress through open and responsible data sharing.
“The BP30 conference celebrates the 30th anniversary of this decision and will take place February 25-28, 2026, bringing together approximately 100 global leaders and experts under the theme “Future-proofing global collaboration in genomics.” The event is organized in partnership with the Wellcome Sanger 46 Reid Street | Hamilton | Bermuda | HM12 1.441.500.1982 | www.carigenetics.com | marketing@carigenetics.com Registration number. 202201729 Institute and CariGenetics, and will explore topics such as national genomics initiatives, benefit sharing and justice, culminating in the Bermuda Principles 2.0.
Founder of the Bermuda Principles Foundation and CEO of CariGenetics, Dr. Carika Weldon said: “In 1996, Bermuda was the place where a key decision helped change science forever by championing the open and rapid sharing of genomic data. In 2026, we build on that legacy with a forward-looking investment in Bermuda’s people and infrastructure. This fireside chat is more than a conversation, it is a direct contribution to ensuring that AI can help drive innovation, training and opportunities as effectively as possible.
