(Bloomberg)– Alphabet Inc.’s Google confirmed it has reached a multi-year deal with Apple Inc. to power the iPhone maker’s artificial intelligence technology, including voice assistant Siri.
“After careful evaluation, Apple has determined that Google’s AI technology provides the best-performing foundation for the Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users,” the two companies said in a joint statement Monday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bloomberg reported late last year that the two companies were finalizing such a deal, with Apple planning to pay around $1 billion a year.
Alphabet shares rose 1.7% on Monday, while Apple rose less than 1%.
In the statement, the companies said Apple will maintain its privacy standards by continuing to run its AI services on consumers’ devices or through Private Cloud Compute, a secure online system. Google technology will support a new version of Siri expected to arrive this year.
Apple had previously delayed the update due to development issues, part of broader struggles to introduce AI features.
