Qatar’s Ministry of Labor has upgraded its Labor Market Information System (LMIS) with advanced artificial intelligence and dynamic reporting toolsstrengthening the country’s capacity to forecast labor demand and shape data-driven labor policy.

The LMIS serves as a central digital platform that brings together data on employment, unemployment, skills, wages, demographics and labor supply and demand. By integrating AI-based analysis and forecasting capabilities, the ministry aims to move beyond historical reporting towards forward-looking labor market planning.

Developed in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the upgraded system integrates in-depth data analysis with AI-based scenario modeling. The ministry said this represents a first step towards transforming the LMIS into a comprehensive foresight tool to support long-term workforce and policy planning, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

At the heart of the system is a central intelligent agent designed to analyze labor market data and labor policies and generate dynamic forecasts of job demand. The AI agent is trained on Qatari national labor data and policy frameworks, enabling it to assess labor market trends against the Third National Development Strategy and anticipate future workforce trends.

Unlike traditional analysis tools, the AI agent is integrated with multiple LMIS modules, allowing policy makers to interact with it in real time. Decision-makers can request sector- or demographic-specific information, personalized summaries, and scenario-based explanations, accelerating evidence-based decisions around employment, skills, and workforce planning.

The upgrade also introduces advanced dynamic reporting features including interactive dashboards, custom reporting using filters, data visualization tools and downloadable datasets to support institutional and workforce planning across ministries.

Looking ahead, the ministry is developing occupation-level demand forecasts to better align education and training programs with future labor market needs. The initiative aims to improve the readiness of domestic talent and strengthen Qatar’s capacity to respond quickly to economic and workforce changes.
