The Trump administration on Monday unveiled a new initiative called the US Tech Force, made up of about 1,000 engineers and other specialists who will work on artificial intelligence infrastructure and other technology projects across the federal government.

Participants will engage in a two-year employment program working with teams that report directly to agency leadership, in “collaboration with leading technology companies,” according to an official. government website.

These “private sector partners” include Amazon Web Services, Apple, Google Public sector, Dell Technologies, Microsoft, Nvidia, OpenAI, Oracle, Palantir, Sales force and many more, the website says.

The Tech Force shows the Trump administration is increasingly focused on developing America’s AI infrastructure as it competes with China for dominance of a rapidly growing sector.

The initiative was announced four days after the president Donald Trump signed a decree aimed at establishing a national AI policy framework – a priority for industry leaders who opposed states developing their own regulations.

Once Tech Force members complete their two terms, they will be able to seek full-time employment at companies that have committed to considering program alumni for employment. Private partners can also appoint their employees to carry out missions in the service of the government.

Annual salaries will likely be between $150,000 and $200,000, plus benefits.

“We’re trying to reshape the workforce to make sure we have the right talent to solve the right problems,” Scott Kupor, director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, told CNBC.Scream box“Monday morning.

The engineering corps will work on “high-impact technology initiatives including AI implementation, application development, data modernization, and digital service delivery across federal agencies,” the site states.
